Accounting & Bookkeeping Services in Sofia

Bulgarian companies must keep their books under the Accountancy Act and file on a strict monthly rhythm. Miss a filing and the penalty arrives automatically — the tax office does not send reminders. We take the entire cycle off your desk: you send documents, we handle everything the state expects, and you get a clear picture of your numbers in a language you actually read.

What monthly bookkeeping in Bulgaria actually involves

Every registered company in Bulgaria maintains double-entry books in Bulgarian, denominated in euro since the January 2026 changeover. Purchase and sales journals are filed monthly if you are VAT-registered, payroll declarations are due monthly whether or not you paid anyone, and the annual accounts must be published in the Commercial Register for the public to see.

Most foreign owners discover this the hard way — usually when a penalty notice arrives in Bulgarian. The work itself is routine; the risk is entirely in the deadlines and in the formatting the National Revenue Agency will accept.

How we work

You upload invoices, bank statements and contracts to a shared folder — whatever format suits you, including photos of receipts. We process them, reconcile your bank, post everything to the ledger and file what is due.

Each month you receive a short summary: revenue, expenses, VAT position, corporate tax accrued to date, and anything that needs your attention. No 40-page export you will never open.

When the tax office writes to you, we answer. That correspondence is in Bulgarian and it is on a clock, so having someone local read it the day it arrives matters more than most owners expect.

Built for foreign-owned companies

We work almost entirely with owners who are not in Bulgaria full-time: IT consultants, e-commerce sellers, holding structures and small service companies. That shapes how we operate — asynchronous by default, documents by email or cloud folder, calls in English, and no assumption that you know what a "ГДД" is.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Bulgarian accountant if my company has almost no activity?

Yes. A dormant Bulgarian company still files monthly payroll declarations, an annual tax return and annual financial statements in the Commercial Register. Penalties for non-filing apply even when turnover is zero, which is why dormant companies are the most common source of unexpected fines.

Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?

Yes, and it is straightforward. We request your ledger, filed declarations and access history, reconcile the opening balances, and check that nothing was missed before we took over. Handovers are most common in January and after a bad filing season.

In which language will I receive my reports?

English. Statutory filings are submitted in Bulgarian because the law requires it, but everything you read — monthly summaries, annual accounts, explanations of what a notice means — is in English.

Do you use accounting software I can access?

We work in Bulgarian-compliant accounting software and provide you with monthly exports. If you already use Xero, QuickBooks or a similar system for management reporting, we reconcile against it so your internal numbers and your statutory numbers agree.
