Common questions about accountants in Sofia
How much does an accountant cost in Sofia, Bulgaria?
Fees are driven by how many documents your company generates each month, whether it is VAT registered and whether it employs anyone — not by turnover. Because those three things vary enormously between companies of the same size, we quote per company rather than from a price list, and we fix the fee in writing before any work starts. You get a figure on the free consultation call.
Do I need an accountant for a Bulgarian company?
In practice, yes. Bulgarian companies file monthly declarations, keep double-entry books in Bulgarian and publish annual financial statements in the Commercial Register. The filings are in Bulgarian and the deadlines are enforced automatically, which makes self-filing impractical for most foreign owners.
Can I find an English-speaking accountant in Sofia?
Yes. Sofia has a substantial international business community and a number of firms work in English. What varies is whether you get a named accountant who answers your emails or a general inbox — worth checking before you sign anything.
What is the corporate tax rate in Bulgaria?
A flat 10% on taxable profit, one of the lowest in the European Union. Dividends distributed to individuals carry a further 5% withholding tax. Personal income tax is also a flat 10%.
Do you work with companies whose owners live outside Bulgaria?
That is most of our client base. Filings are made under a power of attorney, documents are exchanged electronically, and you never need to be physically present for routine compliance.
How quickly can you take over my accounting?
Usually within two weeks. We request your ledger and filing history from your current accountant, reconcile the opening balances and check for anything missed before assuming responsibility. Handovers most often happen in January or after a missed deadline.
